June 2011

We finally settled on Yellowstone, Zion National Park, Las Vegas to see the granddaughter and then home.  It was a fun trip punctuated by breakdowns and fascinating people.  I have just started the page so be patient.

What another great trip.  We planned our trip to be in Florida and at Kennedy Space Center for the Atlantis launch,,,,  and it was spectacular.  But many other things we had the opportunity to do were were pretty special too.  Got to see lots of Manatee, a great trip to the Dry Tortugas, fishing, shelling, Edison's home, the Naval Aviation Museum and lots of great scenery.  And guess what?  Another bonus, Dave got to visit with one of his old NASA (Madagascar) buddies Don Cates.  We always say "we find more things by accident than we do on purpose" and this trip was no exception.  No near misses on the highway and lots of good cookouts along the way.  What else could you want?

Well we finally set in concrete what we're going to do.  There was a real struggle since we had the opportunity to see a shuttle launch but that will have to wait for another day, perhaps in 2010.  Our 2009 trek will be another trip up through Colorado to The Great Sand Dunes, Telluride, Mesa Verde, The Durango Silverton Railroad, Grand Canyon, Las Vegas and the Very Large Array telescopes near Socorro New Mexico.  I can't think of any trip that would have more variety. We will keep everyone posted as we go along the trail.  Yea!!  We're all getting excited!

This is the first trip we have ever made that fell apart most of the time!!  It was an opportunity to make a trip with our Granddaughter Molly who was attending Oklahoma Baptist University.  She's getting older and we know that one day soon she will leave the nest and we won't be able to make these long trips with her.  We decided to go on vacation a little earlier in the year so Molly could take some summer classes after vacation.  It wasn't a lot earlier, maybe two weeks earlier than normal at the most.  We were scheduled to be at Flagg Ranch in Grand Teton National park the last week of May.  Flagg Ranch called just before we left and told us there had been so much snow this spring they had not been able to keep up with snow removal and would have to cancel our reservations or use the staff RV parking.  So,, we moved our reservations to the second week of June.  As a result of changes at Yellowstone we had to reverse our travel agenda.  The new agenda would be Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, Grand Tetons, Yellowstone National Park, shopping at Jackson (maybe we will see Harrison Ford in the local Albertson's.  He lives in Jackson you know.), Jackson Lodge, Cheyenne WY, Colorado, Kansas and home.
